Conceptual Design:

Pioneering conceptual design of innovative products is a hallmark of Solent Composites track record since 1992. Typical projects have comprised subsea structures, prestige architectural constructions and advanced carbon fibre tooling for high performance cars. Application developments have included low temperature water curing epoxy grouts for subsea installations and high performance fire and blast protection, etc,

Manufacturing Design:

A key strength of Solent Composites is its ability to translate concept design into manufacturing design. The Company has its own in-house expertise covering resin selection, reinforcement selection, laminate specification, manufacturing procedures, post-cure definition, QC tests and QA programmes.




Tooling



The SCS SmartMould™ concept has been developed to offer manufacturers of composite components a thoroughly tested bespoke integrated tooling system.

Solent Composites has more than 10 years experience of the design and manufacture of complex tooling ranging from small, precision tools in high modulus carbon fibre to large single piece plugs and tools up to 50m long such as moulds for the wind turbine business.


Manufacturing



Processes:

Glass/carbon fibre/aramid reinforcements in epoxy using infusion, “Sprint”, vacuum bag (both pre-preg and wet lay up), and temperature controlled hydraulic presses.

The SCS Rotor Blade Manufacturing System (RBMS™) incorporating SmartMould™ offers blade makers a turnkey package of unrivalled performance.

Commissioning:

Commissioning and installation services for electrical, mechanical and structural systems.

Facilities:

Solent Composites has in-house multi-discipline design, planning, QA and procurement functions Manufacturing is undertaken in modern clear span buildings more than 50m long equipped with overhead travelling gantry cranes.

The E Cowes site has deep water loading facilities alongside with barge transportation to Southampton and onward global destinations.


Quality



Solent Composites has a long record of manufacturing to the highest levels of quality. This was originally developed to meet the stringent requirements of the Offshore Oil & Gas Industry. Approved quality systems include ISO9001.2000 and Achilles registration number 25494.
