SCS declared Winner New Business Award

28th November 2005
SCS Team Award SCS awarded “Best New Business” at IOW Chamber of Commerce Business Awards for Excellence event 2005.

Recently formed company Solent Composite Systems Ltd based in East Cowes of Wight has been nominated as Winner “Best New Business” at the prestigious IOW Chamber of Commerce Tourism & Industry Business Awards for Excellence 2005. This event now in its 20th year brings together the most successful Island based companies

SCS was also nominated for an Award in two other categories and additionally for the coveted overall winner Business of the Year Award. Commenting on the result Huw Radley said,

“Achieving the New Business Award is a fantastic result for our people who showed great faith and determination to perform as a world class business. Having been nominated for the overall winner category too is quite extraordinary and provides us with an exciting new challenge for next year”

When acquiring the business early in 2004 Huw Radley commented,

“The true value of SCS is largely based on its intellectual property, know-how and highly competent people skills. Building on these values has achieved success and rapid growth in serving the highly demanding Offshore Oil and Gas industry where quality, health and safety, and performance criteria are second to none”

In today’s market where energy resources are so critical, SCS has been playing a partnership role in securing the UK’s ongoing gas supplies coming from the important new natural gas fields on the Norwegian Continental shelf, in particular the recent exploration of the Barents Sea in Hammerfest Norway. SCS designs and manufactures composite fire and blast protection systems for the emergency shut down valves at Statoil’s new Snøhvit (Snowhite) LNG plant.

The company’s other main focus is in the burgeoning renewable energy sector, - both wind and tidal stream where it provides a portfolio of services in design development and manufacturing of wind turbine blade moulds and related component using its composite technology.

Solent Composite Systems is a member of the British Plastics Federation, Composites Group. SCS holds ISO 9001 and the Norwegian Achilles certification and is working towards ISO 14001.

Solent Composite Systems (SCS) operates from three sites on the IOW initially at the Innovation Centre a SEEDA supported facility for new IOW ventures. Early in 2004 SCS opened the doors to its new manufacturing and technology facility at Cowes Waterfront Venture Quays- also a SEEDA owned site.
