The European Wind Energy conference in Madrid, last year, was the largest ever global wind power event to be staged and Solent Composites were proud to attend and be able to demonstrate its leading edge manufacturing abilities.
Solent Composites have established themselves as Europe’s leading independent tooling manufacture for wind blade moulds and will present their technology and expertise in the manufacturing of large moulds and blade components. Solent Composites has for several years been regarded as the number one player in the provision of custom designed composite structures for off-shore oil and gas rigs that withstand the most rigorous endurance and performance testing, including exposure to jet fires. This heritage in manufacturing complex large components with great precision has stood the company in good stead in the development of wind turbine moulds and components.
Today Solent Composites boasts three facilities on the Isle of Wight- the latest in Cowes has the capability to manufacture blade tools up to 60 metres in length, and has the advantage of deep water mooring and heavy duty craneage alongside – an essential need in today’s world of ever increasing wind blade length. A large portion of Offshore’s activity utilises vacuum infusion technology- not only for components but also for the moulds themselves.
Solent Composites’ customer list includes world class leaders such as NEG Micon Rotors and GE Wind Energy. Customers select Offshore based on their ability to deliver totally engineered solutions project managed to very demanding timescales- another essential feature required to support the rapid growth enjoyed in the wind energy industry.
During the Conference Solent Composites presented a workshop entitled Advances in Wind Turbine Mould Design. This was well attended and numerous enquiries have since been received.
